November 14, World Diabetes Day. The population of Outaouais is invited to come meet Diabète Outaouais on Saturday, November 14, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at our offices at 10 Noël Street, Suite 109 in Gatineau (Hull area). Come have a coffee with us. This is an opportunity to meet and chat with people in your community who live with diabetes, and to learn more about Diabetes Outaouais. It's by appointment! World Diabetes Day is the largest diabetes awareness campaign in the world. It is celebrated every year on November 14, the birthday of Frederick Banting (a researcher at the University of Toronto), who discovered insulin with Charles Best in 1921. Acting early against diabetes is the theme of World Diabetes Day 2026-2027. The November 14 campaign focuses on early diagnosis and reducing risk factors. Acting at the first signs helps improve access to care, limit risks, and protect everyone's health. According to Health Canada, in Canada: - About 3.9 million people aged one and older live with a diabetes diagnosis, representing 9.7% of the population. - 1.9% of adults aged 20 to 79 had undiagnosed diabetes. - Nearly 300,000 Canadians live with type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. - 6% of adults in Canada live with prediabetes, which increases their chances of developing type 2 diabetes. According to the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec (INSPQ), 730,000 people aged 1 and older were living with diabetes in Quebec in 2024-2025. As for Diabetes Canada, it estimated in 2024 that 31% of people living in Ontario have diabetes or prediabetes. Hello dear members,
You are invited to participate in a short Special General Meeting followed by the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Diabetes Outaouais Inc., which will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. in Room 1 of Campus 3, 196 Notre Dame Street, Gatineau, QC J8P 0E6.

This meeting will be preceded by a very short Special General Meeting (SGM) which will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the same location.
These meetings will be held in person. A free barbecue will follow the AGM!
You will find attached the agenda for each meeting, and, for the SGM, a copy of the motion requiring a vote by the members.
This year, exceptionally, there will be elections for 5 director positions. Anyone interested in running for office is asked to submit a letter/email of intent to the office, but it is also possible to do so at the meeting itself.

To minimize waste, you will receive the following documents by email confirming your registration: the minutes of the previous AGM, the 2025-26 annual report, and the 2026-2027 provisional budget. These documents, along with others, will be projected on a screen during the meeting. Copies will not be available in the meeting room, but some documents will be available electronically upon request afterward.

Please remember that only members in good standing have the right to vote and participate, so it is important to ensure that your 2026 membership dues have been renewed on time. They were due in May.

Please confirm your attendance with the association office by phone at 819-770-0442 or email at info@diabeteoutaouais.com by June 24, 2026. Registration is important to ensure we have enough food for the barbecue afterward and to guarantee sufficient capacity for the event!

Please note that the 2025-2026 activity report will be available to everyone on the association's website the day after the AGM.

We look forward to welcoming you on June 28 at 4:00 p.m.

Martin Payer, Chair of the Board of Directors of
